What You’ll Do:

Customers Bank is seeking a Senior SQL Database & Infrastructure Engineer to lead the design, optimization, and governance of our enterprise SQL Server platforms. This role will play a pivotal part in maturing our data infrastructure supporting both operational workloads and strategic modernization initiatives across hybrid and cloud environments. You will be responsible for improving resilience, standardizing deployments, reducing technical debt, and enabling long-term platform stability through performance and architecture best practices.

Platform Ownership

  • Oversee all Microsoft SQL Server environments (on-premises and cloud) supporting critical business systems.
  • Define reference architectures for database deployments, including high availability, disaster recovery, and environment baselines.
  • Standardize operational patterns related to naming, sizing, resource scaling, access control, and security alignment.

Reliability & Optimization

  • Continuously assess system health and implement architectural improvements to enhance availability, failover readiness, and data integrity.
  • Drive performance tuning efforts across transactional and analytical workloads using telemetry, workload analytics, and collaboration with development teams.
  • Guide the implementation of automation and observability frameworks to proactively detect inefficiencies and maintain operational SLAs.

Cloud Transition Support

  • Lead efforts to consolidate and modernize SQL workloads in Azure using platform services and virtualized infrastructure.
  • Implement repeatable and secure deployment pipelines aligned to DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code principles.
  • Provide architectural input to cloud migration projects, ensuring minimal disruption and adherence to regulatory requirements.

Compliance & Resilience

  • Support business continuity goals by developing and validating database recovery procedures, restore strategies, and continuity playbooks.
  • Collaborate with security and audit teams to align database controls with FFIEC, GLBA, and SOX obligations.
  • Maintain documentation of standards, procedures, and platform changes to support transparency, governance, and audit-readiness.

Team Collaboration & Guidance

  • Mentor infrastructure and systems staff on database health management, automation, and monitoring techniques.
  • Participate in design reviews, architecture working sessions, and enterprise planning forums to advocate for scalable data architecture.
  • Recommend tools and approaches to improve efficiency, resilience, and visibility of database services.

What Do You Need?

  • 7+ years managing SQL Server environments at scale, including production support, deployment, and architecture planning.
  • Deep understanding of query performance tuning, data access patterns, and system optimization techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with hybrid database deployments, including Azure SQL and virtualized SQL in IaaS.
  • Proficient in T-SQL scripting, configuration hardening, monitoring, and systems integration.
  • Familiar with Windows Server management, automation (e.g., PowerShell), and AD-integrated security.

Preferred

  • Experience with replication, disaster recovery architectures, and database consolidation projects.
  • Exposure to DevOps-integrated workflows for managing database infrastructure (e.g., Azure DevOps, Terraform).
  • Microsoft or Azure certifications in database administration or data platform engineering.
  • Operates with accountability, curiosity, and architectural discipline.
  • Comfortable transforming informal environments into well-documented, resilient platforms.
  • Strong communicator capable of bridging gaps between infrastructure, applications, and compliance stakeholders.
