What You’ll Do:
Position Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Senior Internal Audit Officer to support the Firm’s internal audit function with a specific focus on regulatory remediation oversight. This critical role will lead and execute independent assessments of proposed changes to policies, procedures, models, and operational frameworks across the first and second lines of defense. The individual will be instrumental in providing audit approval and risk-informed insight to ensure alignment with regulatory expectations, internal standards, and sound risk management practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Remediation Oversight
- Evaluate and approve remediation activities related to regulatory findings and enforcement actions.
- Provide objective assessments of proposed modifications to policies, procedures, models, and controls within the Firm.
- Ensure that changes meet regulatory standards, risk management best practices, and internal governance expectations.
- Audit Reviews and Approvals
- Review and opine on significant first-line and control function changes to operating models and control frameworks.
- Participate in working groups and governance committees related to risk mitigation and remediation strategy.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Operations teams to evaluate adequacy of controls and effectiveness of remediation efforts.
- Provide expert guidance on internal audit standards and risk implications associated with change initiatives.
- Reporting and Communication
- Deliver concise and impactful reporting on audit findings and decisions to executive leadership and the Board’s Audit Committee.
- Document audit opinions and maintain thorough records in support of audit and regulatory review processes.
- Audit Planning and Execution
- Develop audit plans and testing procedures specific to remediation efforts and related control enhancements.
- Lead or support targeted audits that evaluate the design and implementation of changes to address regulatory and risk-related issues.
What Do You Need?
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, or CISA strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in internal audit, risk management, or compliance within the financial services industry.
- Deep understanding of regulatory requirements, control frameworks (e.g., COSO), and risk governance principles.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating complex policy, procedure, and model changes with a risk-based perspective.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to make high-impact decisions under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex issues to senior executives and regulators.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and drive outcomes in a matrixed environment.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience with regulatory remediation programs (e.g., consent orders, written agreements).
- Familiarity with enterprise risk management tools, audit software, and GRC platforms.
- High integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to maintaining audit independence.
Technology Skills:
- Ability to work with the Microsoft Suite and learn/work with other Customers Bank’s applications
